Runway To Hallway

Runway to Hallway

It is the start of a new school year, but most importantly it is the start if a new season: FALL.  This year’s fall runway had many memorable trends. Most of us girls here at YHS don’t study the runway and search for the most repeated styles. Runway to Hallway is a guide created to pin point the trends from the season’s runway shows. Some might be thinking, “That’s great and all, but how do I apply these trends to my everyday life?” Do not fret! Storm Style is here to tell you how to incorporate these trends into tznius looks for the hallway.

Lilac

Who said pastels are only for spring?

Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 12.19.16 PM

This delicate purple took the runway by storm. Lilac was one of the few recurring colors in this season’s runway. Traditionally, this color is worn in the spring and summer time, but many designers decided to change that rule this year. This light color is perfect for the Florida sun. Try wearing a sandal or even a sweater in this floral color.

Windowpane Plaid

Let’s do some window shopping!

Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 12.20.31 PM

Windowpane plaid was a prominent trend in the fall runway shows. Instead of literally going window shopping, go shopping for some windowpane plaid items this season! Black and white are colors typically paired with this pattern, but make your own rules! Try a blue windowpane headband or the traditional black and white blouse.

Grey All Over

It’s not time to be grey, just to wear it!

Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 12.21.47 PM

Another color alert this season: GREY! This color isn’t too surprising. It is a great color for the fall. Many designers featured models with grey from head to toe. This is a sign that this color will be huge this season. Go stock up on your grey clothing, or even pull something out of your closet. You can’t go wrong with grey this season in the hallway. Try a scarf on a chilly day…if we have one.

Moroccan

Lots of Moroccan influence this fall!

Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 12.22.59 PM

This season many people will change their heritage. Moroccan style clothing was a prominent trend on the runway. With a combination of patterns and colors, this look is easy to achieve. Walk confidently down the hall in a Moroccan print skirt or long sleeve tee.  Don’t forget to accessorize!

In the Navy

The military look was strictly navy this season.

Screen Shot 2015-09-20 at 12.25.05 PM

When we think of military style, we think of army green. This trend uses a different primary color and lets it shine. Navy blue was seen on many military looks this season. It’s hard to let this trend be forgotten. It was so strong on the runway, Pretend you’re “in the navy” this season. Try a navy skirt legging from Mimumaxi.com or a classic top.

Fall Into A Workout Routine

Now that school is back in session, leisure time is limited, so we have to spend our few breaks wisely!! Instead of scrolling through Netflix, choosing what new show we’re going to binge watch, we should be scrolling around the new flywheel app with schedules for all workout classes and their specific times, locations, and instructors. Lucky enough, Flywheel has early morning classes so you can go to the 6:30 am class, shower there, and head straight to school. This specific class is so convenient, plus you start your school day extra energetic. Flywheel has barre classes, which work mainly on core and legs. There is also a very intense and motivating spinning class that costs only $15 for students!

Another simple workout is the seven minute app. It consists of a system of quick workouts that focus on exercising your core, legs and arms. If you are too busy studying that there isn’t enough time to hit the gym, then this app is perfect; you can easily work out for a small amount of time plus it never hurts to release some endorphins. You will see quick results with no regrets!

Now, for your workout outfit. Working out is always so much more fun when you look good. A classic go to is a long sleeve dri fit shirt. It’s tznius and is perfect for working out. You can get these anywhere from the Nike store to Nordstrom. Additionally, a great pair of workout leggings are always a necessity, and they can easily be worn under a flowy skirt. The BP section at Nordstrom has some great, affordable workout wear, and if you really want to go all out, Flywheel has a line of comfortable workout clothing!

Autumn Accessories

As the fall season rids us of our hot summer days, we welcome all the stylish accessories autumn has to offer. For starters, this foliage full season fosters the beginning of the school season. When school starts everyone is looking forward to fresh new beginnings and what better thing to freshen up than your phone case. As September is the month that Apple reveals its new IPhone, it’s only appropriate to switch out your old worn out case for a new fashionably trendy one. There are many varieties of cases you can choose; it all just depends on what you’re looking for. For a sturdy secure case you would want an otter box that protects your phone from cracking. If you are the girly type, you can get sparkly ones or floral ones. You can even take a picture and turn in to a case. The sky is the limit. When it comes to deciding, you should pick something that represents your style, personality, and you! In addition to phone cases, another essential accessory is a watch. Watches are needed in school so you know when class ends. There are so many styles for watches ranging from face watches to digital watches. There are also so many colors and brands to choose from to really stand out. It is also crucial to match your watch with any other jewelry you wear so keep gold and silver separate. Always remember to have fun with your accessories and don’t be afraid to express who your are.

Guide For Uniform Skirts

The big question this year for many girls is: what shirt to wear with the new school skirts? Here are some options to help make getting dressed in the morning a bit easier.

There are actually a ton of options for the new skirts, and we even have the choice between three types of skirts: the Kiki Rikki skirt, the MeMe skirt, and any maxi skirt. The maxi skirts are easy and comfortable. They look good on basically everyone and you can definitely find one you like, whether it’s more fitted, flared, patterned, with a slit (that is below the knee), or without a slit. Shirts are an easy fit with this option because basically EVERY shirt can work with maxis skirts. You can go for a relaxed look and just throw on a zip-up or plane t-shirt or look a bit more put together with a collared shirt and sweater over the shirt.

For the uniform skirts, it is a bit harder to find shirts that work with them. The MeMe skirt is slightly more fitted at the top while the Kiki Riki skirt is looser. Both of these skirts would work with the same style shirts. The shirts that seem to look best with the skirts are baseball tees/Henley’s, fitted shirts, crew neck shirts, and shirts that are tighter at the bottom. With these options you should be rocking the hallways of YHS!!!!

Nail it with Negative Space

Want to feel nail-worthy this summer? Summer nails are all about bright colors, floral patterns and the latest trends. The nail art design that is really taking over is negative space nails. You might have seen them on Instagram, nail blogs and even on celebs like Kylie Jenner and Camila Cabello. The negative space nail design doesn’t require a base color and gives off the look as if the nail design is floating against the naked nail, as it has been called the cut-out dress of the nail world. This design is perfect because it’s so versatile. Matte or shiny, light or dark, pastel or neon, this trend can be worn in many different ways with all different nail shapes.
So, how do you achieve this summer nail art design? Here are the steps to a perfect negative space nail manicure:
1.To start off, apply a base coat to your natural nail (which can be either matte or shiny).
2. Let the base coat dry COMPLETELY (If it is not fully dry, it will effect the end result)
3.Take a small nail art brush and make designs using your favorite summer colors to create a look in which the base coat can be seen.
4. Finish off with a quick-drying top coat
5. Take a pic of your gorgeous new summer mani and post it to Instagram using the hashtag #StormStyleNails
Summer Bonus Tip – If you’re strength is not working with a tiny nail brush, simply apply a paper reinforcement ring about 1/4 down on the nail, paint the whole nail in a summer color and remove the reinforcement. The result should end in a effortlessly magnificent mani, which you can show off to all your friends.
Always remember to stay positive while doing negative nails because even if you don’t succeed at first, you can always NAIL THAT TREND!
