Cold Colors

With Florida being as hot as it is, we aren’t able to dress in proper winter clothing. So, if you want to look cute for winter, but don’t feel like putting on a sweater or tights, try these winter makeup looks!

One of the winter makeup trends this year is a bold lip with a natural eye. Some bold lip colors include: dark red, burgundy, and dark purples. If you want a more bold eye and a subtle lip, try cool toned eye shadows such as blue or gray with an extravagant cat-eye and a nude gloss or lipstick.

Nail it with Negative Space

Want to feel nail-worthy this summer? Summer nails are all about bright colors, floral patterns and the latest trends. The nail art design that is really taking over is negative space nails. You might have seen them on Instagram, nail blogs and even on celebs like Kylie Jenner and Camila Cabello. The negative space nail design doesn’t require a base color and gives off the look as if the nail design is floating against the naked nail, as it has been called the cut-out dress of the nail world. This design is perfect because it’s so versatile. Matte or shiny, light or dark, pastel or neon, this trend can be worn in many different ways with all different nail shapes.
So, how do you achieve this summer nail art design? Here are the steps to a perfect negative space nail manicure:
1.To start off, apply a base coat to your natural nail (which can be either matte or shiny).
2. Let the base coat dry COMPLETELY (If it is not fully dry, it will effect the end result)
3.Take a small nail art brush and make designs using your favorite summer colors to create a look in which the base coat can be seen.
4. Finish off with a quick-drying top coat
5. Take a pic of your gorgeous new summer mani and post it to Instagram using the hashtag #StormStyleNails
Summer Bonus Tip – If you’re strength is not working with a tiny nail brush, simply apply a paper reinforcement ring about 1/4 down on the nail, paint the whole nail in a summer color and remove the reinforcement. The result should end in a effortlessly magnificent mani, which you can show off to all your friends.
Always remember to stay positive while doing negative nails because even if you don’t succeed at first, you can always NAIL THAT TREND!

Interview with Instabraid

A social media sensation, Instabraid is the hottest new hairstyle Instagram account. The founders and bloggers, Sophie Rose (’14) and Shir Ben-Zikry were both students at WYHS! The duo was recently featured on Good Morning America, where the two had a chance to talk about their business and even show off some awesome braids they crafted themselves. We recently sat down with the creators to chat about the inception of Instabraid and where they see the account going in the future.

Did you have a predetermined goal when you created the account?

Ironically, no. We created the account completely as a joke, merely because we loved this account instablonde and thought it would be fun to create an account of our own. We got lucky, however, with our timing because we created our account just as Instagram was first starting, so we like to say that in a way we grew with Instagram.

What’s one tip you can give to an aspiring Instagrammer?

Patience. It’s never easy, and it never happens immediately. It took us a few months before even making popular page for the first time, but just know that once you do hit that certain point, Instagram is an amazing platform to take off.

What was the hardest part of following through with your idea for Instabraid?

We would definitely say the hardest part was continuously posting. Our account isn’t an account that just posts a couple photos a week, we post a couple photos a day! Therefore, it obviously gets very tiring always coming up with unique captions, photos, and styles for our pictures.

What are your plans for Instabraid in the future?

Wow, this is a tough question. We have so many ideas on the table but at the moment are still trying to figure out which we want to intensely pursue. We are highly leaning toward advancing our website [instabraid.com], turning it into a more “blog-like” site with posts at least once a week.

How did you find a balance between creating a business and keeping up with school?

For some reason, this was never really a problem for us. We had a really good system down between the two of us and have always been very good at covering for one another whenever we need. When school got stressful and we both really needed to focus on our work, we would easily come to a mutual understanding that we would put instabraid on a short pause, obviously keeping up with our posts yet putting the business aspect on a temporary standstill.

Please tell us about your Good Morning America experience! How were you chosen? How did it feel to be featured on the show?

Our appearance on Good Morning America was an experience that we will truly never forget. It all began when the producer of the show contacted us via email asking if we would be interested in appearing on their show. We couldn’t believe it at first! Within just a few days, we booked our flights to New York and a week later we shared this unbelievable experience. We were so excited but also very nervous about the fact that we were going to be featured on live television. During our short stay of two days, we managed to film the recorded segment, hang out backstage at the Times Square Studios, meet different interesting people/celebrities, and tour the city. We had an incredible time and are so grateful for being given the chance to see our work in the media.

Nail Art

There’s only one place in Los Angeles where countless A-listers go to get their nails done–Esnail Salon. The “Es” in Esnail stands for ‘elegant satisfaction’ and that’s exactly what you’ll feel after getting pampered at this legendary salon. Various celebs ranging from Kim Kardashian to Ashley Benson make appointments at this prestigious spot to relax, have their nails done, squeeze in a quick wax, or maybe even lengthen their eyelashes. Director and Executive Manager, Aiko and Miho, don’t consider nail art to be mere decoration; instead they see it as a part of daily fashion. Opening their first salon in Shibuya, Tokyo in 2003, they have continued to grow their business and satisfy customers. Even though nail art is relatively new to the States, it has been the style in Japan for generations. Nail art has evolved immensely since its start as more and more artists have created fresh and upcoming designs. Now, nail art ranges from gems and rhinestones to nail piercings. All over the world, we are seeing new aspects of nail art and new flavors and designs nail artists are bringing to the table. Below, you’ll see designs from Esnail salon in L.A. along with my personal designs. I hope this article inspires other girls to try out new designs on their nails and remember–no matter the outcome, keep painting!
