Runway to Hallway
It is the start of a new school year, but most importantly it is the start if a new season: FALL. This year’s fall runway had many memorable trends. Most of us girls here at YHS don’t study the runway and search for the most repeated styles. Runway to Hallway is a guide created to pin point the trends from the season’s runway shows. Some might be thinking, “That’s great and all, but how do I apply these trends to my everyday life?” Do not fret! Storm Style is here to tell you how to incorporate these trends into tznius looks for the hallway.
Lilac
Who said pastels are only for spring?
This delicate purple took the runway by storm. Lilac was one of the few recurring colors in this season’s runway. Traditionally, this color is worn in the spring and summer time, but many designers decided to change that rule this year. This light color is perfect for the Florida sun. Try wearing a sandal or even a sweater in this floral color.
Windowpane Plaid
Let’s do some window shopping!
Windowpane plaid was a prominent trend in the fall runway shows. Instead of literally going window shopping, go shopping for some windowpane plaid items this season! Black and white are colors typically paired with this pattern, but make your own rules! Try a blue windowpane headband or the traditional black and white blouse.
Grey All Over
It’s not time to be grey, just to wear it!
Another color alert this season: GREY! This color isn’t too surprising. It is a great color for the fall. Many designers featured models with grey from head to toe. This is a sign that this color will be huge this season. Go stock up on your grey clothing, or even pull something out of your closet. You can’t go wrong with grey this season in the hallway. Try a scarf on a chilly day…if we have one.
Moroccan
Lots of Moroccan influence this fall!
This season many people will change their heritage. Moroccan style clothing was a prominent trend on the runway. With a combination of patterns and colors, this look is easy to achieve. Walk confidently down the hall in a Moroccan print skirt or long sleeve tee. Don’t forget to accessorize!
In the Navy
The military look was strictly navy this season.
When we think of military style, we think of army green. This trend uses a different primary color and lets it shine. Navy blue was seen on many military looks this season. It’s hard to let this trend be forgotten. It was so strong on the runway, Pretend you’re “in the navy” this season. Try a navy skirt legging from Mimumaxi.com or a classic top.

Runway To Hallway
Summer is the season to let go and be free. It’s the season to express your style and show the world who you are. On the runway a few months ago, the trends for summer were amazing! Even though we won’t be walking down the hallway this season, we can still strut our stuff anywhere we go with these tznius and fashionable trends. Runways are very overwhelming for most people; there are so many different looks. Thanks to Storm Style, there is no need to stress over the runway. We have managed to break the summer runway down into four trends and colors. Not only do we spot the trend, but we hand pick tznious and affordable clothing that match it. Use this as a guidline or inspiration to make summer yours!
Military
Who said you need to join the military to own this look?
There was an abundant amount of military styled clothing on runway this season. Almost every designer showed off this trend. This kind of clothing is somewhat uncomfortable for the summer, though. Try wearing more light clothing: like an army green maxi or a button down. If you really want to go all out, splurge on a utility jacket!
Yellow
What’s summer without some sun??
Yellow will always be a color for the summer. It’s not every year that the runway agrees. This season there was yellow galore! Try to incorporate some summer sunshine into your clothes. Try a comfy jelly sandal or a button down midi. Don’t let Florida’s summer showers put you down. Try a cute yellow umbrella to bring on the sunshine.
Polka Dots
Tune your inner Dalmatian.
There were many polka dots walking down the runway this season. Don’t be afraid to try the black and white pattern on your vacation. You can rock the spots in just about anything! Experiment pairing this pattern with one of the summer colors!
Red
These three designers among many others are setting summer on fire.
The runway was burning with red passion this season. Make summer even hotter with this statement color. You can wear red clothing, shoes, or accessories! Try accessorizing with a red bandana. Wrap it around your head and voila! It’s super easy and super cute. You can never go wrong with this color.

Runway to Hallway
In both New York City and Europe there were many distinct fashion trends on the runway this season. It was clear that all of the designers were getting the same spring vibes. Runways are usually very intimidating and hard to relate to. It has most of us thinking things like “How would I wear that?” or “Is that even clothing?” Well not to worry; Storm Style to the rescue! We gathered the top trends on the runway and selected a few tznius and affordable tops, skirts, and shoes to inspire your everyday looks.
Gingham Style
Karen Walker, Michael Kors, and Oscar de la Renta all did the gingham style this season — but not the dance!
Spring is the perfect time for a picnic, but who has the time with our school work load? The least we can do is wear some picnic-inspired clothing with a cool gingham print. It was all over the runway this season and it’s currently in almost every store. Try it out in your hallway look.
Floral Skirts
Michael Kors, Miu Miu, and Undercover planted some fashion-forward skirts.
Spring is the season for…flowers! Literally. South Florida is wishing a farewell to the “cold” and happily welcoming flowers and trees! Not only will flowers grow in our soil but also in our style. Floral print was prominent on the runway, and mostly in skirts! This season try to pair a floral skirt with a solid top or even be a dare devil and go pattern-on-pattern!
White Hot
Christian Siriano and Ralph Lauren made sure to white out the runway.
The runway seemed more like a wedding isle than a runway with all of the white! Many of the looks this season were white from head to toe! This look is very clean and chic, but maybe a little gutsy for the hallway. Don’t worry, if they could pull it off, you can too! Give the all white look a try with these clothing pieces.
Glamorous Gladiators
Erdem (bottom) had a line up of models with gladiator sandals! Valentino (top left) and Fausto Puglisi (top right) followed suit.
An unforgettable trend on the spring runway this year was the gladiator sandal. Whether it was up to the knee or just above the ankle, every designer had it. Getting a good pair of gladiators can be a little pricy. If treated well, these shoes should last a long time and are definitely worth the splurge. Give your everyday look a Romanesque vibe with the glamorous gladiator!
Doused in Denim
Dare to go denim like Fendi, Stella McCarthy, and Chloe.
Denim, denim, denim! The runway was filled with this classic fabric this season. From light to dark wash, denim complements any outfit. This look will be a staple this spring. Follow the trend and pull out your denim. Since it has always been a very popular style, change it up! Try a denim skirt or vest. Switch up the classic button down and explore different denim tops.

Runway to Hallway
Last season at New York City Fashion Week, there were many wintery trends that stood out as many designers had similar directions for their winter collections. As usual, the clothing on the runway this season was not so practical for a casual day in school or a Sunday activity with friends. People often have a difficult time translating runway into wearable outfits because the clothing is avant-garde or extravagant. We’ll help spot common trends from the runway, so you can infuse them into your everyday clothing —in the hallway or wherever you go.
Sporty Bomber Jackets: DKNY shows an edgy look while Thakoon keeps it sweet!
If you own a bomber you should definitely whip it out of your closet this winter. If you don’t own a bomber, go get one! It’s really worth the money, because it’s an essential piece for every season. There are so many different styles. Pick the one that’s right for you!
Going for Gold – Over 7 designers have their eyes on the prize! Just take a hint from Dolce & Gabbana, and Prada.
When girls think gold, they usually think of jewelry, but this season think clothes … and flash tattoos!
Multi-Finger Rings are super chic, especially on the catwalk! Check these out by Nina Ricci and Proenza Schouler.
Rings are always a nice touch to your outfit, but these take it to another level. It catches everyone’s eye down the hall. Multi finger rings are the way to wear jewelry this season!
DKNY brings back Houndstooth Print – finally!!
We noticed a lot of the classic houndstooth print on coats and jackets. Heavy outerwear isn’t so practical though in sunny Florida, so here are some looks that you could wear during our “chilly” winter:
