The NoSnax

Some say day schools should be "no frills"

it is to them I say- run for the hills!

Creativity is the genius of the American spirit

developin g s tudents' talents is what WYHS is all about

Drama is what inspired these rhymes

each year a higher bar WYHS climbs.

Our thespians again brought us Broadway

by a new director in a new venue, no less!

Allie's Mitt, Ashreinu, Brainstorm,

Highlites, Moed, &Yearbook

to writing & publishing YHS students have took.

AIPAC, CIA, IDF sound like an Alphabet soup-

Kachol v'lavan are the true colors of this troop.

Students who love the letter "p"

participate in PR, Productions, and Publicity.

Chazak, Choir, Ho liday, Torah Affairs,

& Videography greatly benefit their fellow students.

Raising consciousness began with Wakeup,

Cultural Awareness, Nutrition & BioMed also do Knupp.

Tzedakah and Chesed define a Jew,

it is due to these committees that our selflessness grew.

Chess, Debate, Math Club, Model UN,

& Stock Market love competing

hopefully it is the other schools who they are beating!

Baseball, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Volleyball

and how could we forget JV and Varsity Basketball

There seem too many activities to count,

Every day it seems to be an increasing amount.

About our physical diets we can not be lax

But our creative diets have to fed to the max.

To no frills, I say no to NoSnax!

On the First Ever Sophomore Girls Shabbaton

Graphic By Jason Mark ('14)
Composed by Kaylee Tripp ('13) and Highlites Staff

Just two weeks ago in Boca Raton
"Oh my!" they exclaimed on the telephone,
"A Shabbaton for all sophomore girls,
Let us prepare- we'll straighten our curls!"

"A fast day on Friday- What's that you say?"
"Break-fast with our teachers is a really great way-
To start off a weekend of bonding and fun,
And a kumsitz so we can sing out as one!"

A scrumptious meal at famous 'Chez Tirschwell,'
An afternoon when oh so much rain fell.
We talked and we talked with RPT,
About our favorite YHS memory.

From soup to challah our Shabbat was filled,
With Torah and inspiration upon which to build.
We were wow-ed by the words of A. Len & K. Tripp,
Our hats to Shira and MAH we do tip.

Ten Students Up On Bus

To Donate Blood Prior to Demanding Holiday Season

Graphic By Amir Tsarfati ('13)
Composed by Eliana Feldan ('13) and
Elana Kaminetsky ('12)

On December 22nd the students formed a flood,
Of all of those over sixteen wishing to give blood.

At the end of the day thirty-four bags were filled,
And with all the snacks and drinks the students were thrilled.

"It's cool to give blood" was the slogan of the day,
Colored bows in pink, yellow, and grey.

"Bleeding is no fun unless for a cause," a student did confess,
To Mrs. Lysee Stein and Shira Englander we owe this success.

We hope to do another blood drive again,
But to hear about that you'll have to wait till then.

The girls annual musical was truly a hit,

the cast stunned the audience with their talent, charm, and wit.

Singing, dancing, and music galore,

smiles and laughter busted through the door!

Seussical-what a classic! Everyone was impressed,

from their voices to their crazy outfits in which they were dressed.

A big thank you goes out to the hardworking staff,

and especially to director Marla Gideos on WYHS's behalf.

And of course to our talented cast: we can't forget you,

from the veterans to those making a debut.

Until next year we cannot wait,

for our talented stars are sure to be great!

JV Boys Off to Blistering Start

Concept and Article By Leora Litwin ('12)

The freshmen and sophomores on the Boys Junior Varsity (JV) basketball team often take on competition that has significant advantages in height and speed. Despite these odds, this year's Boys JV basketball team has leaped through "hoops and bounds" to score their winning record of 4-3.

Led by superb coach Uri Yudewitz, who is colloquially famous for being the husband of Athletics Director Rachel Yudewitz, the boys have pulled away as victors in some cliffhanger overtime games, some complete blowouts, and other close scoring games against their opponents. This team exemplifies the positive consequences that "shoot" forth from mental toughness, hard work, chemistry amongst players, and, perhaps most importantly, a true love for the sport. Congratulations to the Boys JV team thus far and we encourage them to keep up the great work.

This week, WYHS was honored by the presence of a host of unfamiliar but welcome faces. Amiel Abir, ('10, left) and Jenna Bienenfeld-Goldstein ('05, middle-right) addressed students on the dangers of alcohol consumption by teenagers. Karen Green (middle-left), head coach of the Yeshiva University Lady Maccabees, spoke to our female athletes about the glorious accomplishments of the incredibly competitive Yeshiva University athletics program. Yoni Levenson ('09, right) returned to impart some of his wisdom during his guest appearance teaching Talmud to juniors and seniors.

Alum Gets Involved
Early at Brandeis

In high school, it was hard to find something in which David Clements ('09) was not involved.  David exhibited his unique leadership abilities by being an integral part of innumerable clubs and committees.  In fact, he is even responsible for introducing AIPAC to the school.

David then went on to study at Yeshivat Har Etzion ("Gush"), and is currently attending Brandeis University where he has continued to be involved in many student activities.  Not only will he be serving as Treasurer of the BOO (Brandeis Orthodox Organization), but David is also an essential part of the Student Union, and is on the BIPAC Committee (Brandeis's version of AIPAC). In addition, he is part of Jewish Fella A Capella, an a capella group with a CD only months away from release.

David maintains that WYHS helped him become a leader by encouraging him to find his strengths, which have laid down a strong foundation for the future. He plans to return to WYHS next week to share his experiences at Brandeis University and help teach Talmud to current students.
