Everyone's Studying
WYHS
This week and next we are hosting a number of
researchers who want to understand what make
WYHS tick. Our school's unique personality of
a "summer camp with AP
courses" and its uncommon mandate of serving
the spectrum of people who desire a
Religious Zionist, college preparatory
education have attracted people who study
Jewish high schools.
RUACH- Religious Purposefulness- The
Azrieli Graduate School of Education of
Yeshiva University has identified seven
diverse Jewish high schools which it believes
are focused on the religious growth of their
students. They are working with each of us to
both help us identify areas of further growth
and share our successes with other schools.
Israel Education- WYHS' Israel
Coordinator, Weekly Israel Update, recital of
the Tefillot L'Shlom Hamedina, Tzahal
& MIAs,
CIA, frequent Israel programming and Senior
Modern Jewish History course were studied
last week by a consultant who will be
disseminating the best practices in Israel
Education in day schools.
Recruitment & Retention of Judaic Studies
Teachers- A researcher from Hebrew
University, who is funded by the AVI CHAI
Foundation, is studying schools who are
successful in attracting top quality Judaic
studies teachers and retaining them. The low
turn over and high dedication of WYHS'
rebbeim and morot have been
noticed.
The Jewish Agency's Director of the
Education Department in North America
videotaped Tuesday's fantastic Rosh
Chodesh Adar and was amazed to learn that
over 90% of our graduates study in Israel in
yeshiva or seminary for a year before
beginning their university studies.
In addition, in the past week we have had
educators visit from Northwest Yeshiva High
School in Seattle, Maimonides School in
Boston, and the Lookstein Principals Center
of Bar Ilan University who were interested in
learning about our school.
I look forward to seeing all present WYHS
families, alumni and staff at next week's
Purim Chagiga. If you've not done so
already, click here
to tell Marcelle how many members of your
family will be joining us.
One housekeeping note: I always encourage
anyone who wants to contact me to do so by
e-mail. If for some reason you need to
call me, please do so on 561.417.7422 (not

Adar's
Colorful Rosh Chodesh
Chagiga
This year's Rosh Chodesh
Adar
was not like
all other Rosh Chodesh Adars. For the
first
time ever, prospective WYHS eighth grade
students were invited to come to the Rosh
Chodesh event and see firsthand the
excitement that is WYHS. The entire day was
colorful, as teachers dressed in red, eighth
graders dressed in green,
freshmen dressed in
blue, sophomores dressed in purple, juniors
dressed in pink,
and seniors
dressed in
yellow. In the Adar-themed, topsy-turvy,
spirit of VeNahafochhu-- having things
reversed-- students had one class before
davening and a barbecue for breakfast.
Every grade dressing up
in a different color made it easier for us
eighth graders to tell who was in each grade,
and dressing up in green really made us feel
like we were participating in the Chagiga,
our first ever WYHS event.
Dressing up as purple
grapes was hilarious....we took up so much
space in the hall way!
Everyone got really into
the spirit of dressing up in the grade's
colors. From yellow taxis to the yellow
pages, everyone were so creative!
Even the teachers got into
the spirit and came to school decked out in
head-to-toe red
I thought it was the most
"Venahafochu" day ever!
It was so cool having
hotdogs and hamburgers for breakfast!
The mixed up class times
were funny, and our teacher even went one
step further--she was the student and we were
the teachers!
Having the eighth graders
there was a great way to mix things up. This
is sure to be the most exciting month of the
year!
It was so much fun to hang
out with 8th graders and just to see what's
up with them.
Being invited to the
Chagiga and participating in all
aspects made
us feel very welcome!

Spotted: Gila Manolson
Author of : The Magic Touch, Inside
Outside, and Head to Heart
Speaking to: All WYHS girls
Speaking About: The concepts of
negia and tzniut. She uplifted the
girls
with her thought-provoking words and
personal stories that allowed the girls to
relate to
her and be inspired. Using interesting
scientific proof, Mrs. Manolson explained to
the girls the significance of shomer negia
and everyone walked away truly enriched.
Many thanks to Allen & Amy Wolnerman for
sponsoring this program in memory of Amy's
mother.

Commemorating
a Tragedy
WYHS
Participates in the B'Lev
Echad Program
To commemorate the one year yartzheit
of the
tragic terrorist attack at Mercaz
HaRav, WYHS
participated in the nation-wide B'Lev
Echad Program. One aspect of the program
was the
completion of the entire Mishna. Each
class was a
given a
perek of Pirkei Avot, and each day, one
student would prepare a mishnah from that
perek and teach it
to the class. Not only did this allow
students to learn the valuable lessons of
Pirkei Avot, it also represented
our unity,
with everyone coming together for a common
cause.
Another amazing aspect of this program was
"Eight for Eight." Each of the eight days leading
up to Rosh Chodesh Adar was
designated for one of the students who was
murdered Al Kidush Hashem at Mercaz
HaRav.
Students learned about each vicitm's unique
traits and were given a mitzvah to
to focus
on for each day, in the merit of each vicitm.
The entire program truly made everyone's
Adar
more meaningful, and emphasized the idea of
Jewish achdut--unity.

WYHS' Passion for Fashion
by Alix
Greenberger
('10)
Lights (props to the Boca Raton Synagogue),
camera (remember: step, pose,
smile!)...FASHION. The place to be this past
Wednesday night--for the lucky girls, that
is--was the
ballroom-turned-runway at WYHS's first ever
fashion show! Packed with women eager to be
inspired by the latest tzanua trends
by "Be
Precious," the
ballroom exuded excitement as the Yeshiva
Girls Choir performed beautifully and Vice
President of Torah Affairs Daniella Lieberman
('10) spoke inspirationally about one's
clothing choices.
This was all an
introduction to the ultimate display of
fashion and passion as applied to the a la mode
attire. The lights dimmed, and with Mrs.
Horowitz's expert narrations, the models
began to strut their stuff on the runway.
Every girl added her own touch to the already
gorgeous "Be Precious" clothing, and truly
showed that an outfit is as amazing as you
make it. And trust me, the girls were amazing
and modeled off beautiful clothes for
Shabbat, school, weddings, and more.
Recognzing WYHS girls' love for
self-expression, Director of Student
Activities Shira Englander knew the fashion
show would be a hit, and therefore planned a
truly
fabulous night, which ended with
every girl feeling like her style was both
precious and fashionable.
