Are You Happy @WYHS?
We have chosen to participate in a survey of
the parents of present students, eighth
graders, and students who left the school in the past
year. It is the first time in WYHS history that we are
surveying our parents. This survey was created by
PEJE (Partnership for Excellence in Jewish
Education).
Your satisfaction is extremely important to us.
If you are completely satisfied with our program, we
need to hear that so we keep doing what we are doing
well. If you have constructive criticisms and opinions
as to where we can do a better job, we need to hear
that too! Either way, we need to hear!
I can't overstate the importance of your
participation. We count on your response to
ensure the success of this survey with meaningful
results. Our goal is a 100% response rate. We need
to hear all parent voices.
Your answers are made in absolute
anonymity. You will not be required to identify
yourself anywhere on the questionnaire (unless you
wish to be identified). The survey is being tabulated by
an independent third party firm, Measuring Success,
to guarantee confidentiality and professional data
analysis. WYHS will not have access to individual
survey results.
I was one of four high school principals (each in a
different region and in a different type of Jewish high
school) who reviewed the survey over a series of
conference calls. I believe that the results will be
very
helpful to us as we plan the coming year and
years.
Thank you in advance for taking out the time to
participate in this important project. An invitation to
take the online survey will be emailed to you in the
coming weeks. Please check your email for the survey
link.
Please note the correct dates for this week's Town
Meetings (NMB Monday; Boca Tuesday).

From the
Seasoned Seniors...
Words of Wisdom from the Class of '09
This week, to start off the second trimester,
the freshmen met with the seniors for some
friendly, upperclassmen tips. Below are the
top ten pieces of advice which the ninth
grade learned for surviving the next three
and two-thirds years of their high schools
careers:
1. Artscroll is your friend! Use
it for
your Bekiut quizzes!
2. Speaking of Bekiut, breakfast is a
very under-rated part of the school day. Not
only do you get free cereal, it is valuable
time to REVIEW your notes.
3. Find your own method of study.
Some learn visually while other learn by
hearing, so it is important to find what
works for you.
4. Understanding what you study is as
important, if not more, than memorizing.
Teachers don't give points for spitting back
all information you know on the topic!
5. Do your homework, regardless of
whether or not it's being checked by the
teacher
6. Even seniors use planners! Not
only
do you get introspective advice and fun
facts, your schedule is compiled in a neat,
little spiral.
7. Don't be bashful: always ask
questions!
8. When studying for Gemara and
Toshba, pay attention to "Nafka
Minas," the practical differences. They
are frequently used test questions!
9. Always have a friend on call
for when
you may be absent from class or your notes
are completely illegible.
10. Highlight important quotes in your
novels
for essays and important phrases in your
sefarim for those tricky
"BeKeshers" and "Context Rishonim."

This week, the tenth grade
class had its night out, a barbecue followed
by a boys vs. girls trivia game. Students had
a great time, and
congratulations to the girls on their victory!

"Students of WYHS have done a wonderful
job selling
triangles as well as helping
spread the word
about the program in the
Highlites.
WYHS Alumni have told Stern
College about Triangles of
Truth, and from there word spread to YU,
Barnard,
Columbia, Rutgers, and
