The atmosphere at school this week was permeated
by a number of very special
events;Visiting
alumni home for the holiday
from their year
in Israel came to not only see teachers and
attend their shiurim but to play basketball as
well. We are proud of their
growth and cherish our continuing close relationship
with them;Our SACS

visit this coming week,
which is the culmination of a five year long self study
process;
Passover preparations which include
studying Hilchot Pesach and the
Hagadah and a hands on seminar by
Rabbi Sugerman on kashering;
The excitement
before the fantastic school play and the
larger than life
personas that were revealed on the big stage in front
of a sell out crowd;
An "over the top" Sophomore Trip. The
students never fail to amaze us with their
ruach and appropriateness.

They Brought the House Down
|
|
by Sarah Dray ('06)
On Wednesday night, teachers, students,
parents, and friends were greatly entertained by
WYHS' presentation of the classic
comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace. The incredibly
talented fourteen
students (including a superb performance as not one,
but two dead men
by Evan Abitbol '07) had the entire audience roaring
with laughter.
Mortimer Brewster, outstandingly performed by Avi
Dennis ('07), discovered
that his two exceedingly sweet aunts are actually
serial murderers who
have poisoned twelve elderly gentlemen as a charity,
to spare them
from being lonely. Aunt Abby and Aunt Martha,
perfectly brought to
life by juniors Batyah Weiss and Ziyona Rantz,
respectively, had victims
including characters played by Mrs. Jessica Schultz
and juniors Yoni Brander and
Evan Abitbol.
If that wasn't crazy enough, their nephew Teddy
(Michael Hande) is convinced that he is Teddy
Roosevelt (and reads his
own biography on occasion, learning about his
future). Unfortunately
for Mortimer, his evil brother Jonathan (junior
Mordechai Siev) comes back to
have revenge on Mortimer for their differences as
children. After Dr.
Einstein (freshman Moshe Wahba), Jonathan's
drunkard German sidekick, had
performed plastic surgery, Jonathan looked exactly
like Boris Karlov,
and seemed unrecognizable to his family. Mortimer
began to worry about his engagement to Elaine
Harper (played by sophomore Shira Borzak) because
of his family's tendency to mental insanity.
The show
culminates in Raquel Amram's ('07) entrance as the
police lieutenant, as she
arrests Jonathan for his twelve murders from across
the country. Aunt
Abby, Aunt Martha, and Teddy are all committed to
Happy Dale
Sanitarium, where they are excited to continue being
completely
insane.
The actors performed amazingly-the
police (sophomore Meir Weiss, senior Sarah Magid,
and yours truly) couldn't have had better
accents (although not all New Yorka, right Raquel?),
the President
couldn't have been more like Teddy himself, the
German sidekick was certainly European, and the
corpses couldn't have been deader!
After months of late night practices, the WYHS
cast put on a
hilarious and thoroughly professional
performance! The acting "newcomers" had the
veterans' jaws drop with their accomplishments.
They brought a
newfound humor to the show as they professionally
performed their
characters. Under the unequivocal tutelage
of Director Mrs. Elizabeth Saddler,
the drama department has performed yet another
seemingly unbeatable
comedy, raising the bar on all productions to
follow. This "killer"
performance will be hard to beat!

Sophomores Bond and Have Fun in the Sun
|
|
by Chava Rubin ('07)
This past Sunday morning, the sophomore class got
up bright and early for an awesome trip to the
keys.
Immediately after arriving in Key Largo, we were
offshore! By nine in the morning, the boys
were off
snorkeling in the ocean and the girls were
enjoying a glass bottom boat tour of a coral
reef. After lunch, the boys headed back out to the
ocean and enjoyed four hours of fishing-
winning a big 30! The girls also headed to the water
for canoe and kayak rides (and a bit of
unscheduled swimming when some canoes flipped!)
and then headed to the ocean for snorkeling.
At night, the boys and girls met at a beach where we
enjoyed a BBQ and bonfire kumsitz. The
singing under the stars was phenomenal and really a
class bonding experience. After the beach, everyone
went to their respective motels. The day for the
boys wasn't over yet--they topped their night off
with an exciting water fight! Hillel Lefokowitz
commented that the "water fight definitely brought
the all the boys together as a group. It was crazy. It
was fun. It was aaaaamazing".
The next day, the girls headed on a four hour fishing
trip, but beat the boys by catching 37 fish
and even caught a baby shark! The boys
headed towards the mangroves for canoeing and
kayaking. Everyone met up for lunch
and the Theater of the Sea. The class observed,
learned
and interacted with the different animals. Some
students even got the opportunity to touch the
dolphins and sea lions.
For dinner we had a BBQ again at a local park and
played a game of football. Before we all headed back
home, we rounded off the great trip with a
breathtaking sunset cruise.
This trip was really an incredible experience and
would not have been possible without the hard work
of Rabbi Spodek, Ms. Sardano, sophomores Raquel
Amram, Jason
Mann and Chaim Seligman. Thanks so much to our
class of 2004 alumni chaperones, who
were "fresh off the boat" home for Pesach from
Israel- Avi Amsalem, Shulamit Atkin, Batsheva Davis
and Shira Pritzker. Thank you so much!

Mishloach Manot Feed the Homeless
|
|
by Jordy Kaminetsky ('07)
Who wants to deal with the massive amounts of food
received in Mishloach Manot only weeks
before Pesach? Not many people, including my family!
So, this year, shortly after Purim, my mother was
forwarded an e-mail from a shul in New York that
stated that they'd be taking all that excess food
and donating it to a worthy organization.
Immediately, my mother approached Rabbi Tirschwell
with the idea to establish a similar program here in
Boca Raton; it was a win-win situation. Not
only were we relieved of the tons of food that
overtook our house just weeks before Pesach, but
also, a local food pantry would receive heaps of food
to feed the needy. Rabbi Tirschwell asked me to
head up this creative drive.
So, an e-mail was sent out to all the entire Yeshiva
High-lites and Boca Raton Synagogue e-mail lists.
The response was incredible. Over the
course of the week, the food came in, dropped off in
a box outside the school office. There was
everything from spices to lollipops; chocolate and
bagels. Before we knew it, we had accumulated so
much food - forty pounds worth - that it
took carts to transfer it all.
I contacted "The Caring Kitchen" of Delray
Beach, and they were more than interested in
receiving our donation. This past Tuesday I, along
with my sister Sarah, drove up to Delray to deliver
the food. Their response to the delivery was
astounding; it seemed as if never before had they
seen such a massive amount of candy. After
teaching the volunteers and members of their
community a little bit about Purim and Pesach, we
invited them to help themselves to the Purim themed
lollipops and groggers, and my sister and I left to
head back to Boca.
Such a simple, uncomplicated project had such a
rewarding, heartwarming effect. Not only did I "kill
two birds with one stone," but especially after seeing
their response, I can appreciate just how worthwhile
and gratifying it is to give to others. G-d willing, next
year we are going to publicize the project before
Purim and collect Mishloach Manot in each
community.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game
|
|
by Hillel Lefkowitz ('07)
What a roller coaster of a first year it has been for
WYHS baseball. From outstanding wins to
devastating losses the entire Storm team has
come out of this year with a better respect and
understanding for the game.
Many players have stood out this year.
Jason Mann ('07) pitched for the first time this year.
Even though he had a rocky start with the team's
opening game against Boca Christian, he blew away
David Posnack's batters with an 11-strikeout no-
hitter. Among the pitching aces, Dov Lieber (06')
stands out. Even though he did not get as many
pitching starts as he would have liked, when he did
start it was something to watch. Most memorable
was the game he pitched against Broward Christian
where he pitched a complete game all the way to the
win.
No narrative about this season would be complete
without mentioning the amazing offensive power that
was packed in the lineup. (C) Eli Baratz (08') hit the
first homerun in WYHS history. Both Our signature
lefty (LF, 1B) Oren Hizkiya ('07) and (1B) Yoni
Horowitz never fail to 'smack' the ball. Leading off
this power-filled lineup is our "speed demon" Josh
Goldberg ('06), who succeeded in stealing 14
bases.
Last but not least, team captain (SS, P) Jake Singer
('05), who brought baseball to WYHS, consistently
delivers offensively and defensively. He will be missed
after graduating this year. Overall, everyone has
played at the top of their game. At their last
game of the season this coming Tuesday, the Storm
is expected to go out like it went in, with a blast.
Come out and support the team at 3:30 p.m. at
Pinewoods Park on Tuesday.
