From the desk of
Rabbi Perry Tirschwell

Between tournaments, trips, chagigas, shows and preparations for our Purim Chagigah and Annual Dinner, it's truly been March Madness at WYHS.

An important step forward this year has been the fundraising efforts of each class to lighten their parents' load by raising funds to subsidize their trips. Kudos to the class presidents and Program Director Rabbi Josh Spodek. In that vein, I urge everyone to support this Sunday's Sophomore Garage Sale, which will take place at the Boca Raton Synagogue Purim Carnival, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Due to Purim, Yeshiva High-lites will not appear next Friday. A special edition about the Purim Chagigah will appear the following week.

Shabbat Shalom and Chag Purim Sameach,

Principal

The Most Fun Rosh Chodesh Ever

by Chava Rubin ('07)

In keeping with the Purim theme of "v'nahafoch hu" (G-d turned the impending disaster into a great victory), everything about last Friday's Rosh Chodesh celebration was Topsy Turvy.

The chagiga took place outdoors instead of inside, with a hot dog, hamburger and chicken wing barbecue breakfast that could have passed for dinner. The performance of the student band Under Construction was followed by the appearance of "Over Construction", a faculty band who amazed everyone with their musical talent!

In addition to the food, music, and, of course, lively dancing, students and teachers came to school in topsy-turvy apparel and costumes! Clothes were mismatched, inside-out, upside-down, and backwards as students competed for the best outfit award. Congratulations to runner up, basketball player, Yocheved Popiol ('06) and winners Chaim Seligman ('07) and Meir Weiss('07) on their outstanding head to toe costume.

Rabbi Ben Sugerman shared one of his hilarious "Top Ten List"s, poking fun at various aspects of our school.

The chagiga ended with a huge finale -the submerging of teachers in a dunk tank! In an attempt to get the teachers soaked, students donated money to throw 3 balls at the target to give their rebbe a bath. Congratulations to Leah Bensimon ('07), who got Rabbi Josh Spodek in the tank on her first shot.

Thank you to the Poliak family for sponsoring this extra special breakfast in honor of the teachers and admininistration at WYHS.

Journal and Dinner Deadlines
Are This Week!

Don't miss out on your final opportunity to pay tribute to Rabbi Kenneth and Ruchie Brander. The deadline for ads is this Monday, March 21, to be a part of the journal. The deadline for dinner reservations is this Thursday, March 24.

The dinner will take place on Tuesday evening, March 29th at B'nai Torah Congregation on SW 18th Street in Boca Raton (not at Boca Raton Synagogue as initially announced) beginning with a buffet dinner at 6:00 P.M. followed by a program which will include a video presentation.

This event is the school's major fundraiser for the year. Please join us as we pay farewell tribute to the Branders prior to Rabbi Brander assuming his new position as Dean of the Center for the Jewish Future at Yeshiva University this coming fall.

To place an ad, make reservations or for additional information, please click here to e-mail Executive Director Shimmie Kaminetsky or call the school office at 561.417.7422.

From NBC to WYHS

In an episode mimicking prime time television, eight WYHS students spent much of the past week competing to be The Apprentice.

In preparation for next week's Purim Chagiga, two teams of four students competed against each other at three tasks. Footage of these competitions and the ensuing board room scenes with Executive Director Mr. Shimmie "Donald Trump" Kaminetsky will be aired at the Purim Chagigah this coming thursday evening. At the chagigah, the winning team and the apprentice will be chosen.

The first task was Lemonade Wars. Each team had to sell as much lemonade or orange juice as they could. Some of the creative ways they marketed their products included smoothies, free popcorn or donut with each purchase, orange juice in orange hollowed out peels, low carb ices, announced by slogans on all sorts of posters. Each team was given a budget and the proceeds went to tzedaka.

The second task was to clean up the Beit Midrash after a particularly messy breakfast and to set up for a chagiga decorated for a theme of the team's choice. The Beit Midrash never looked so Hawaiian and Haunted Mansion as it did that day.

Starting on Tuesday afternoon and culminating Thursday at the end of school, the third task was to make a sixty second commercial for WYHS. The students were given access to the school's thousands of digital photos, video cameras and editing programs, and two hours at a professional editing studio.

The participants say that their organizational and creative skills have never been challenged on this level.

Join us for the screening of this exciting competition and its live surprise finish at this Thursday's Purim chagiga.
