selichot programs for sophomore and junior boys in Boca
and in Hollywood (see the last article below for details).
Sunday morning's Neta Hebrew Language Curriculum
(click on the link below the David Project article at right for

Next Thursday's freshman / senior pre-Rosh Hashanah
program.

Our hope is that these fun and content-full programs will
enable our students to have their most powerful yamim noraim season
yet.

WYHS Takes Miami By
Storm |

Last weekend's Miami Beach Shabbaton, hosted by
Beth Israel and Young Israel, was a tremendous success! The
families of Miami Beach students joined us for dinner and an
Oneg Shabbos on Friday night, as well as for a beautiful
Seudah Shlishit on Shabbos afternoon. Parents and students
were treated to some one-of-a-kind entertainment in the form
of a hilarious faculty skit about making Shabbos
meaningful, courtesy of several WYHS teachers. Everyone also
enjoyed thought-provoking Divrei Torah delivered by
teachers as well as students.
Shabbos day kicked off a special senior leadership
program, new this year at WYHS. The senior class ate lunch
together with their teachers, and then spent the afternoon
discussing leadership dilemmas that they will potentially face
during their time in high school and after they graduate.
Students had the opportunity to role-play these
scenarios, which encouraged them to begin thinking about
how to be leaders in school and at home.
This year's twelfth grade, a class that has grown both
religiously and academically during its years at WYHS, will be
participating in several other leadership activities
throughout the year, including a weekly Leadership Training
Seminar and a unique senior/freshman event next Thursday.
On Saturday night, Miami Beach parents gathered at the home
of Debbie and Zvi Gold for a Melaveh Malka, where they
were joined by WYHS Founder, Rabbi Kenneth Brander.

are invited to attend WYHS's first annual Israel Night.
Information about yeshivot and seminaries will be presented by
recent alumni of each school. Don't miss this opportunity to
get the inside scoop on many of these programs!
Seminary and Yeshiva visits are already in the
works! Check the calendar each week in the Highlites to
find out when each school's representative will be visiting

The
Storm Did Hit Boca |
|
It
just keeps getting better and better! Congratulations to the
Boys Varsity Soccer team on their huge 3-1 victory over
Donna Klein on Wednesday. Everyone on the team played an
outstanding game, especially sophomore Jordan Lieber,
who scored all three of the WYHS goals! The Storm defensive
line, including seniors Sam Cohen, Danny Krasna, and Bryan
Lieber, also deserves a round of applause for only
allowing one Donna Klein goal!
WYHS Girls Varsity Volleyball also played Donna Klein this
week in a five-game match that went down to the very last
game. The whole team gave their all, with especially
unbelievable serves by seniors Jessica Struhl and Dina
Turetsky, and all-around fantastic play by freshmen
Jordana Kaminetsky and Stephanie Trachtenberg.

Wednesday's soccer game. This will take a while to

Students Learn How to Stand Up for
Israel |
|
In the coming months, WYHS will begin
implementing an innovative new program called the David
Project, an educational initiative that promotes peace in the
Middle East by providing a fair and honest understanding of
the conflict there. This project includes a creative four-
year curriculum that focuses on the history of conflict in
the Middle East and trains students to become advocates for
Israel.
Students will gain an understanding of the history of
the peace process, the Intifada, and the necessity of the
State of Israel for Jewish survival. In addition, students
will learn how to construct rational arguments on behalf of
Israel as well as how to organize pro-Israel events on their
college campuses. Each year, students will also participate in
running a school-wide fundraiser for Israel.
Last year, WYHS History teacher Mr. Adam Dobrick
attended a training seminar for the David Project and has been
working hard ever since to define the parameters of this
unique program.
