After a set of pre Rosh Hashanah calls, I'm happy to report that
our 2003 graduates are doing well at their schools in Israel
and the US.
Parents who are interested in a Neta-style beginners
Hebrew class once a week, mid day at school should contact Mrs.
Moscowitz via the school office.
Mazel to the WYHS parents Debbie and Tzvi Gold on the
birth of their first grandchild.
I look forward to seeing the boys at the tisch at
my home tonight and the seniors and their parents at the Israel
Night on Tuesday.

| WYHS To Be Center Court and Center Stage

 Excitement is in the air about WYHS' girls varsity
basketball team the Lady Storm playing at the American
Airlines Arena, home of the Miami Heat!
It will be an inter yeshiva game against the Rabbi
Alexander Gross Hebrew Academy of greater Miami. Parents are
invited to watch their daughters play like the pros on
Tuesday, December 16th, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 and
$25, and entitle Lady Storm fans to stay for the Miami Heat
game afterwards.
In order to allow student fans to cheer on their team,
that Tuesday will follow a Friday schedule. Tickets must be
bought through the school and will go on sale in the coming
weeks. Thank you to junior Amanda Ruben for organizing
this extraordinary event!
Plans are already in progress for an exciting boys
JV and Varsity basketball doubleheader against Hebrew
Academy, to be held possibly on that same day.
Another battle of day schools will be the boys varsity
soccer game against Donna Klein Jewish Academy, scheduled to
take place on Saturday night October 25th at 8:30 p.m.
at Woodlands Park in Boca. Don't miss this chance to cheer
on the Yeshiva Storm as they take on these tough
opponents!
On a slightly more cultural note, WYHS presents two amazing
opportunities to take advantage of Broadway in South Florida.
All WYHS girls and their mothers are invited to a
performance of Les Miserables at the Kravis Center in
West Palm Beach on Wednesday, May 12 at 8 p.m. Tickets for
these first-rate seats cost $52 each and must be purchased by
Thursday, October 9th.
All freshmen and their parents are invited to
Dinner Theatre WYHS style! Reserve your tickets to see The
Chosen performed at the Coconut Grove Playhouse on Sunday,
February 1st at 2 p.m., followed by dinner at a local
restaurant. Tickets are $10 for students and $26 for parents,
and must be purchased by Monday, November 17th.
Checks for either of these events can be made payable to
Weinbaum Yeshiva High School and should be sent in to the
school office as soon as possible to reserve your spot!

| "American Idol" Competition at
WYHS |

 Although WYHS' first student band, Torahck, can never
truly be replaced, auditions were held today for a new
school band to play at school chagigot and special
programs throughout the year! The students played for a
standing-room-only crowd of WYHS music fans and band groupies!
Several students tried out for the band, including
sophomores Mordechai Siev, Devorah Greer, and Jacob Kaplan,
juniors Jake Singer and Jeremy Gelbart, and Senior Mitchell
Slugh. Instruments ranged from drums, keyboard, guitar to
harmonica, and performances were evaluated by special
guest judges, Rabbi Josh "Paula Abdul" Spodek, Mrs. Amy "Randy
Jackson" Horowitz, and Rabbi Josh "Simon Cowal" Broide.

Inspiring High Holiday Week |

 Students and faculty gave their "spiritual all" this
week, with extra davening and learning for the
Aseret Yemei Teshuva. Davening lasted approximately one
and a half hours each day!
On Thursday, WYHS founder Rabbi Kenneth Brander
delivered Kinus Teshuva shiurim about the Power of
Repentance to our students during the school day.
On Tuesday evening, Rabbi Brander also gave an
inspirational shiur about "Yom Kippur: A Lesson in Joy" at the
Young Israel of Hollywood.
Assistant Principal Mrs. Ora Lee Kanner spoke to
parents twice this week, once for AMIT in Hollywood and once
at the Hillel Day School in Boca, about the power of Chana's
tefillah.
The smiling students pictured above enjoyed a Joint
Yachad/ WYHS Program on Thursday night after
mishmar. Over 20 WYHS students stayed after school to
make chicken-shaped tzedakah boxes (symbolizing both types of
kaparot). It was hard to determined who gained more
from the evening. Kudos to Yachad Director Mrs. Sharona Litwin
and WYHS senior Shulamit Atkin for organizing this program.
Doing its part to create a Gesher Chai (a living
bridge) between Boca Raton and its Jewish Federation sister
city Kiryat Bialik in Israel, WYHS has begun creating a
program with the Kiryat Chinuch ORT Kiryat Bialik. A recent
graduate of this Israeli school who is working at the
Federation in Boca this year, Eliad Liron, visited WYHS this
week to held design a program. The goal of this Partnership
2000 program is to give the Israeli students a better
understanding of religious identity of observant American
teenagers and to to give WYHS students a better understanding
of life for teenagers who are a few months away from service
in the Israeli army and live with terror every day.
On Thursday, special guest speaker Ms. Jacquie Padow-
Klewansky, a retired psychiatric social worker, shared her
experiences with the senior girls Leadership Training Seminar.
Nine years ago, Ms. Padow- Klewansky experienced a brain
injury and faced a long road to recovery. She described the
challenges of her rehabilitation and emphasized the importance
of the community support she received during her recovery.
The WYHS 2004 yearbook is already well underway!
Ninth, tenth, and eleventh graders took school pictures on
Tuesday, and seniors are scheduled to take their pictures on
Wednesday, October 8th. Yearbook ads go on sale next week, and
everyone is encouraged to purchase ads as soon as
possible because space is very limited! Stay tuned for more
yearbook details in the near future!

| Shabbat Shuva, Next Week and
Beyond |
|
 Tonight all boys in Boca for shabbat are invited
to the home of Rabbi and Mrs. Tirschwell in Thornhill Estates
at 9:45 PM for a ruach and fun filled tisch .
There will be no school on Yom Kippur, Monday
October 6.
On the day after Yom Kippur, Tuesday October 7,
school will start at 9:15 a.m. beginning with davening.
On Tuesday night, October 7, 7:30 p.m., our first
Israel Night for seniors and their parents will take
place. WYHS alumni will speak about the Israeli yeshivot they
attended and information about scholarships, credits and
deferments.
Thursday October 9 is the last day of school before
Succot vacation. It will follow a regular Thursday
schedule, though mishmar will not take place.
Looking ahead, there will be an optional PSAT review
on Monday October 20, the day after Succot, at 1 p.m. Students
who are interested in the review and who take a Bel Air bus
should contact Shimmie.
The PSAT exam will be given on Tuesday October 21 to
for the ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades). Seniors will begin
school at noon that day.

| Introducing Simone Broide |

| WYHS would like to welcome its newest
faculty member, Assistant School Counselor Mrs. Simone
Broide. Mrs. Broide will be in school twice a week,
meeting with students, both individually and in small groups,
to assist them with any issues that might arise during their
time at WYHS.
Mrs. Broide will be working very closely with School
Counselor Mrs. Marilyn Goldstein, as well as with the faculty
and administration, to help make each student's high school
career more successful and enjoyable.
Mrs. Broide has recently completed her coursework for her
Masters in School Counseling, with a Specialty in High
School, at Johns Hopkins University.
In addition to her new role as Assistant School Counselor,
Mrs. Broide also serves as the co-Youth Director for the Boca
Raton Synagogue.
