From the
desk
of
Rabbi Perry
Tirschwell
It was an emotional week for all of us at
WYHS,
as a
very special senior class moved from the classroom to
the exam room and graduation practice, which is
reflected throughout this week's highlites.
By popular demand, the freshman end of the year
program is
being planned to take place immediately after the last
final exam, on Tuesday, June 8. Kudos to class
representatives Ali Cristina and Jason Mann for their
hardwork. Details to follow.
Mazel tov to the Marder Family (including
senior Melissa, junior Jen and freshman Andrea) on the
bar
mitzvah this Shabbat of their son and brother Jake.
Mazel tov to Rabbi Josh Broide on being
awarded the Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for Excellence
in Jewish Education for South Palm Beach County.
Shabbat Shalom and a Happy Lag B'Omer on
Sunday,
Rabbi Perry Tirschwell
An Entertaining & Spirited Salute to Our Athletes |
|
The fourth annual WYHS Sports Recognition Program
was by far the best ever in school history!
Student and parent fans packed the room to cheer
for
this year's athletes one last time! Principal Rabbi
Perry
Tirschwell kicked off the festivites with a welcome and
the introduction of athletic director Mrs. Melissa
Pereira and the various coaches. Mrs. Pereira
asked each coach to speak about his/her team's
progress. Each team member was called up, spoken
about and presented with a framed team picture. Each
coach awarded MVP and most improved player
trophies.
Between team presentations, an
amazing WYHS sports year in review video was
presented, to the absolute delight of the athletes as
well as the fans.
Congratulations to Mrs. Melissa Pereira (and Rabbi Josh
Spodek, who assisted her with the video) on the best
year in WYHS sports history, as well as on creating
a most fitting tribute to the school's athletes!
Thank you to the parents and students who not only
turned out to honor the teams at this event but who
are consistently present at WYHS sports games to
support the Yeshiva Storm!

Family Feud, Senior Send-offs & the Choir Returns |
|
Last weekend's Boca Family Shabbat was a
wonderful experience for all who participated. Parents
and teachers enjoyed each other's company over
lunch, and then got to see each other's competitive
side during a lively game of Family Feud!
Congratulations to the Krasna and Borzak families on
making it to the final round, and to the Borzak family
for winning it all in the end!
Monday was the last day of regular classes for the
graduating seniors. The day was bittersweet, as
students expressed their excitement for what lies
ahead amidst tears and hugs for what they'll leave
behind. In addition to coming to school to take AP and
final exams, several of the seniors have continued to
return to school each day to voluntarily attend
davening and gemara
shiur. At the seniors' first graduation
practice, the senior boys who are still hard at work
in preparation
for their siyum on masechet
sukkah, practiced their parts as
well.In preparation for the end of
their time at WYHS, founder Rabbi Kenneth
Brander has focused much of his attention on the
senior class, talking to them and learning with them
several times in the past few weeks. Last Thursday, at
their final session of the senior Leadership Training
Seminar, the senior class enjoyed a scrumptious
lunch with Rabbi Brander as he addressed them in
school for the last time.
As a fitting end to his outstanding WYHS career, senior
Yoni Gold (pictured above) made a siyum
on the mishnayot of Seder Nezikin, which
he began learning this past summer with his brother, Ari
(01).
Yoni's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tzvi and Debbie Gold,
brought bagels and breakfast all the way from Miami
Beach to celebrate Yoni's achievement
together with the boys of the senior class and the rest
of Rabbi Horowitz's shiur. Thank you to the
entire Gold family for helping make Yoni's last day of
school particularly memorable.
An important meeting took place this week to reinstate
the WYHS girls' choir for next year. New choir
heads, juniors Atara Aroll and Lyndsay Zubchevich,
were named and tryouts were held for spots in next
year's choir. Atara and Lyndsay are already
brainstorming new song ideas as well as brushing up on
the old favorites. Advanced Placement (AP)
exams are well underway, having begun on
Monday. Fourteen students have already taken various
tests, with some of the biggest exams still ahead today
and next week.

The Keys, WPB, NYC and Beyond |
|
Next Monday, May 10th, is the big day for the
sophomore class trip to the Florida Keys. The
boys will
leave at 6 a.m. from WYHS and will spend the day in
Islamorada. The girls will leave at 6 a.m. from the
Young Israel in Hollywood and will spend the day in Key
Largo. The sophomores are geared up for a
great day snorkeling, fishing, and cruising the
beautiful Gulf
and Ocean waters, as well as much, much more!
Buses will make
stops on the way home in NMB at Shaarey Tefillah, in
Hollywood at the Young Israel, and in Boca at
WYHS.The season for elections for next
year's student council began last week, giving
candidates time to fill out the necessary forms and
write their essays. The deadline for nominations is next
Tuesday, May 11th, during breakfast. All
forms
and essays are due at that time.
A reminder to all WYHS girls and mothers who have
already purchased tickets to see Les
Miserables -- the performance is coming up on
Wednesday, May 12th at 8 p.m. at the Kravis Center in
West Palm Beach. Tickets are no longer available for
purchase through WYHS.
The senior class
trip will begin on Wednesday, May 12th in the
early
afternoon, with students returning Wednesday, May
19th in the late
evening. The seniors will travel up the coast and then
back, hitting all the major sites along the way and
spending a quiet, intimate Shabbos in between at Camp
Magen Av in the Catskills. The senior trip
promises to be an excellent opportunity for the seniors
to cement the bonds of friendship they have
formed over the past four years.

What We'll Miss about WYHSA parting message from the senior class presidents |
|
by Shayna Hoenig and Justin
Kohlhagen
As our high school days come to a
close,We look back and stop to
thinkHow quickly time has passed
us
by,And how for us independence
is on the
brink.Take it from us, it's
bittersweet,Graduating from our
second
home.No more building containing
us,No more hallway inside for us
to
roam.What about school
we will miss
the mostIs difficult to
choose,Because
there's so much we have to
leave,So much
we're going to lose.Will it
be our
teachersWho always cared so
much,
Who gave us so much knowledge?
Teachers like them - we'll never
find
such.Will it be the sports
teamsThat we played on with
such pride?
The teamwork and respect we
hadAs
we played with each other side by side?
Perhaps it will be the
ruachThat always filled
each
chagiga,From Rosh
Chodesh to
various chagim,Dancing
and singing
would fill the whole
Yeshiva.Maybe it
will be the long lasting
friendshipsThat were
fostered throughout our high school
years.From all different cities we
came
together,To share fun, laughter,
and
tears.But looking back
upon this
listHas made us
realizeThat the things
we think we're going to miss
most,The things
that make our tearful
goodbyes,We
actually won't have to miss at all!
And here let
us explain,Because these things
will always be
with us,In our hearts and
thoughts they will
remain.
We always will
rememberOur years at
WYHS,How they helped shape
who we are
today,How they made us
progress.And so we'd like
to express
our thanksTo everyone who made
WYHS this
way,The place of learning and
growth it has
been for us,The place that in our
hearts will
always stay.

Quote of the Week"Leaving school this past Monday was hard- it hit me that I wouldn't be returning tomorrow. Never in the past four years had I felt such sadness about leaving. No longer would I see my friends, school mates and teachers walking down the hall"
