Tuesday's Sephardi Party in honor of Rosh
Chodesh Nissan was an unqualified success, giving
the primarily Ashkenazic student body a chance to see
how the other half lives!
Thanks to Boca Raton Community Kollel director Gabe
Ohayon's thorough guided tour of the Sephardic
siddur on Monday, the
entire school
prayed Sephardic and enjoyed it on
Tuesday morning!
Davening was followed by a presentation by
birthday girl sophomore Sahar Zaghi on the history
of Sephardic customs and how they differ from
those of
Ashkenazim. Many students wore
traditional Sephardic garments to
davening and breakfast --
including some
wannabe Sephardis! Speaking of breakfast, everyone
filled up on a delicious variety of Sephardic
foods, including shakshooka and jachnun, while
listening to Sephardic music playing in the
background!
Special thanks to Gabe Ohayon for
organizing the davening, to Eli Berdugo for
enlisting several Sephardic men to participate in the
WYHS minyan, and to Dr. Hedy and Dori Zaghi
for
sponsoring the breakfast in honor of the birthday of
their daughter Sahar!

The Week in Review |
|
This week's town meetings in Boca and North Miami
Beach gave parents an opportunity to raise and
discuss
several important issues.In the academic
arena, topics such as what courses are offered, how
course levels are determined, and test and
homework
policies were brought up.
In the extracurricular arena, parents and WYHS
administrators considered the issue of creating
more
diverse clubs for non-athletic students, as well as
what
to offer students who try out for sports but do not
make the team. As always, many creative
and
valuable ideas were brainstormed at each of these
meetings. Thank you to all the parents who attended
the meeting in their community.
WYHS had the honor this week to host Rabbi
Menachem Liebtag, of Virtual
Beit Midrash, Tanach.org, and Yeshivat Har Etzion.
While
at WYHS, Rabbi Liebtag, a popular
teacher at many seminaries in Israel, was busy in
several different capacities. On Wednesday,
before traveling to North Miami Beach to deliver a joint
WYHS- Congregation Shaarey Tefilah sponsored
shiur, Rabbi Liebtag
delivered a Judaic Studies faculty in-service to
discuss next
year's chumash curriculum. On Thursday,
Rabbi
Liebtag returned to WYHS to speak to two separate
groups of students about the structure of the
Haggadah and the meaning of many of its
components.
On Friday morning, a number of classes are scheduled
to enjoy a presentation by
Rabbi Mordechai Becher, senior lecturer for
Gateways,
who is visiting from Israel.

Yeshiva STORM Tennis, Baseball and Basketball |
|
Although the inclement weather has caused many of
their matches to be cancelled, the WYHS varsity tennis
team is in good spirits as their season rolls forward.
Last week, the dynamic duo of Borzak sisters
Ilana (junior) and
Shira (freshman) (pictured at left) beat their
opponents in a stunning doubles victory!
WYHS sports is proud to announce the first ever
Storm
baseball game, which will take place on Sunday,
March
28th at 4 p.m. at South County Regional Park in Boca.
The two teams are both comprised of WYHS students,
who train under two separate coaches, Rabbi Ben
Sugerman and Mr. Adam Dobrick. The two teams will
play each other throughout this season in the hopes of
forming one official team for next year.
The boys varsity basketball season has come to a close
with the return of the team from the Yeshiva University
Red Sarachek basketball tournament last weekend.
The Yeshiva Storm placed third in their tier
after
winning games against Eshkol Academy of Silver Spring,
Maryland
and Robert M. Beren Academy of Houston, Texas!
In one game, the Yeshiva Storm scored the first 17
points of the game, with scoring leader sophomore
Jon
Struhl going on to score 23 points!
Congratulations to the boys varsity basketball
team on an exciting season!
