The apprearance of the "new and improved" Yeshiva
High-lites format has unfortunately coincided with a
period of increased vilgilance against e-mail-
transmitted viruses. We appreciate the patience of
those
of you who are having difficulty receiving the high-lites,
a problem which we are working hard to overcome.

interesting article from this past Sunday's Boston Globe

A special refuah shleima to freshman David
Belolo, whom we encourage
each and every student to visit in the hospital.
Shabbat
Shalom from Englewood, NJ, where Mrs. Kanner and
I are spending shabbat with our alumni

The Week in Review |
|
This past week, Daniella Weiss
(pictured above),
mayor of Kedumim (a yishuv in the
Shomron), Israel spoke to all WYHS girls about
the current security challenges facing the State of
Israel. Mrs. Weiss is an inspiring personality and an
excellent role model for the young women at WYHS.
Thank you to WYHS Executuve Board member Dr. Hindy
Rubin for arranging this memorable presentation.
Tuesday evening's Parent-
Teacher
Conferences were a great success! Parents from
Miami Beach to West Palm Beach (and all points in
between) came to WYHS to discuss their children's
progress as the school year reaches its halfway
mark. Also on Tuesday evening, WYHS juniors
and their parents attended a College Kickoff
Seminar led by college guidance counselor Mrs.
Judi Robinovitz. The seminar included essential
information about the initial steps in the college
application process and how the juniors can begin
preparing themselves to apply to college next fall.
On Thursday, the juniors and seniors
attended a three-hour seminar with Rabbi Daniel
Mechanic, director of Project Chazon. This incredible
program geared towards yeshiva high school students
consists of seminars on fundamental philosophical
topics such as belief in G-d and the
Torah .
After
breaking his ankle in the line of duty last week,
Rabbi Benjy Horowitz is recuperating at home this
week with the help of many of his students.
Students have volunteered to help make a
minyan at Rabbi Horowitz's home each morning
and afternoon (pictured below), and have regularly
called and visited during their free time. We hope to
see Rabbi Horowitz back at school next week!

Down to the Wire, the Lady Storm Comes Through |
|
Last night's girls varsity basketball game was
one of the most exciting moments in Yeshiva Storm
history! The Lady Storm were down 38-36 with
1.5 seconds left to go in the game when senior Dina
Turetsky was fouled with a technical violation and
given three foul shots! After making the first two foul
shots to tie the game, it all came down to the final foul
shot....which Dina made easily to win the game in
the final second, 39-38! WYHS is proud to
once again be hosting a girls varsity
basketball Shabbaton and tournament from Friday,
February 27th through Sunday, February 29th!
The WYHS girls varsity basketball team will compete
against teams from across the continent,
including Maayanot, MAYHS (both in New Jersey), SKA
(Long Island), and Ulpana (Toronto).
Friday's games will be followed by a beautiful Shabbat
where the girls can
get to know each other off the playing field,
games will be played on Saturday night and Sunday at
Boca Prep.

conference, will join over 700 yeshiva high school
students from across the United States and
Canada to
debate, discuss, and propose resolutions to a variety of
complex political issues. After each day's full schedule
of activities, participants will hear shiurim from
leading Torah scholars from Yeshiva University and
other Jewish institutions in the New York area.
On Tuesday, February 10th, the freshman class will
experience NBA basketball like never before!
The excitement begins with a barbecue
at 3:30 p.m. at Rabbi Spodek's house, after which
an official Miami Heat bus will pick up the
students and take them to the American Airlines Arena
in Miami where they will watch the Miami Heat take on
the Los Angeles Lakers! The bus home will
leave at approximately 10 p.m. and will make stops at
Shaaray Tefillah in NMB, the Young Israel in Hollywood,
