From the desk of Rabbi Perry Tirschwell
One of the WYHS year's true highlights is the annual

weekend in Orlando. The students and families of their
beloved Judaic teachers will be spending a weekend
filled with inspiration, recreation and laughter together
at the Hilton Disney Resort. Buses will drop the
students off in Boca, Hollywood, NMB and Miami Beach
Sunday night. Classes will begin with a late davening at
9 AM on Sunday morning. Parents- Look for
your child's
first trimester report card (accompanied by a
number of important items) which is going in today's
mail.
With this edition, we welcome to Yeshiva High-lites
over 100 prospective
parents and students who attended most

Getting in the Chanukah Spirit |

WYHS heralded the arrival of the month of Kislev with
an extra special Rosh Chodesh
Celebration.
The morning began with inspirational prayers,
including a beautiful hallel led by senior Danny
Krasna.
After davening, students feasted on a delicious
breakfast of bagels, eggs, omeletes and hash brown
potatoes!
"This was the best WYHS dancing ever!",
remarked
one junior, summing up the magic in the air. WYHS'
student band, Under
Construction", truly "rocked the house".
Following the music and dancing, everyone settled
down to hear from special guest speaker Rabbi
Simcha
Scholar, Executive Vice President of Chai Lifeline.
Rabbi Scholar shared his views on the meaning of life,
which he illustrated with several poignant stories about
the terminally ill Jewish children he has come into
contact with in the course of his work.
Students also watched an emotional video
produced by
Chai Lifeline, which further enhanced Rabbi Scholar's
message about the importance of each and every
human life. Thank you to the sponsors
of this
incredible program, Tony & Judy Gelbart (parents of
junior Jeremy Gelbart) in memory of
Leon & Bessie Guttman, and Howard & Joan Noven in
honor of the birthday of their grandson, senior Ari
Blatt.

Corned Beef, Hockey and A Race to Finish |
|
To kick off the Thanksgiving break, the senior
class, along with Rabbi Benjy Horowitz and Rabbi Josh
and Mrs. Tova Spodek, spent last Wednesday evening
painting the town red! Dinner at Levy's Deli of
Hollywood (picture at right) was followed by an
exciting Florida Panthers vs. NY
Rangers hockey
game, which ended in a 3-3
tie. In perhaps the most exciting moment of the
evening, Stanley C. Panther, the team mascot, came
over to meet and shake hands with the group!
In addition to the fun they are having at programs like
the hockey game, the seniors are work hard to
maximize their last year (IY"H!) at WYHS.
Many WYHS senior boys are kicking
their learning up a notch in order to finish the entire
tractate of Sukkah by the end of this year.
Students have dedicated time on the weekends as well
as after school during the week to complement the
learning they are doing in school so that they can
achieve this phenomenal goal! These students will
travel to New
York upon completion of the masechet to meet
with Rabbi Herschel Schachter, Rosh Kollel of
Yeshiva of Yeshiva
University.
Stay tuned next week for pictures of our seniors
teaching middle school students through
WYHS's Leadership Training Seminar.

The WYHS basketball season has started with a bang!
Both the girls and boys varsity teams are
undefeated
so far! The girls had an unbelievable week,
winning
their first three games in a row and demonstrating
improved skill, teamwork, and an intensity unmatched
by previous teams! The five starters played incredibly
well, with amazing defensive moves by senior Shoshana
Turk, awesome shooting by senior Elana Kazstl, and all
around great play by remaining starters seniors Dina
Turetsky, Shira Pritzker, and Jessica Struhl.
After finishing 1-1 in a pre-season tournament at
Florida Bible, the boys varsity basketball team (pictured
above) won their first regular season game this week,
defeating Donna Klein 58-54 in the last
moments of the
game. The team played like never before,
executing perfect plays again and again. Special kudos
to juniors Hillel Wolf, Jake Singer, and Dovi Lamet for
their aggressive play!

How You Can Get Involved in WYHS |
|
by President Pamela
Turk
As WYHS grows, the need for parental involvement
is increasing. There are many ways that we
parents can make a difference.
Athletics: Parents of our athletes have a
great opportunity to be involved by helping the team
coaches! Parents can help organize carpools to
practices and games, make sure that there is enough
water and food (if needed), as well as be there at the
games to cheer on the teams!
Community Shabbatonim: The administration
and Judaic faculty spend one Shabbat a year in each
community -- Miami Beach, North Miami Beach,
Hollywood, and Boca Raton. These cannot be held
without parent involvement. Parent Get-
Togethers:
Many parents have asked for an opportunity to meet
and spend time with other WYHS parents in an informal
setting such as a picnic. This is a great opportunity for
parents to get involved in planning an event that will
directly benefit them!Journal Dinner:
Our major
fundraiser of the year is our Journal Dinner. W are
always looking for parents to help with the journal and
soliciting of ads. We need everyone's help in order to
raise the money necessary to provide scholarship
dollars to our students. These are just a couple
of ways that you as parents can get involved. As the
school grows, its needs will grow, and each parent has
a special talent that will help us meet those needs and
more! Call our Executive Director, Mr.
Shimmie
Kaminetsky to become a part of the WYHS
magic
