From the desk of Rabbi Perry Tirschwell
For me, the highlights of this pre-Purim week were listening live
over the internet to Batsheva Davis speak in New York, having a
tragic headline come alive as Mrs. Kanner shared the life story of
her childhood friend Elinatan Horowitz and his wife Dina, who were
murdered by terrorists last Friday night at their shabbat
table in Kiryat Arba, and seeing the friendships created by last
weekend's tournament / shabbaton. We look foward to a great weekend
in North Miami Beach.

The First YHS Boys JV Basketball Tournament
brought together 50 students from Florida, New Jersey and New
York. In addition to games on Friday, Motzei Shabbat and
Sunday morning, the shabbaton included shiurim and
inspirational talks from Rabbi Kenneth Brander, Rav Binny
Friedman, Rabbi Avi Schneider and Hillel Day School of Boca
Raton rebbe Rabbi Reuven Boshnack. Mazel tov to first place
TABC (Torah Academy of Bergen County) and to our
representative on the All Star team, Jonathan Struhl. Thanks
to Coach Rabbi Avi Schneider, Athletic Director Noah Davis and
particularly to Executive Director Shimmie Kaminetsky for
putting together a great program.
Seven representatives of our L'Maan Achai program traveled
to NY with Rabbi Spodek to partcipate in the National
L'Man Achai Siyum HaTorah at Yeshiva University on
Thursday night. In addition to Rabbis Norman Lamm and Herschel
Schachter, YHS School President Batsheva Davis spoke to the
crowd of over 1,000 plus the virtual audience who listen to a
web simulcast.
The Tzedakah Committee's Shaloch Manos
fundraiser for Chai Lifeline was a major success. The $
900 that was raised along with the proceeds of the
tzedaka boxes and Snapple sales, will enable the
tzedakah committee to present a $2,000 check to the
most worthy organization. Students purchased and wrote message
cards for the past three weeks. The shaloch manos were put
together by the tzedaka committee for 3 hours after
school on Wednesday, and distributed to the students on Friday
during breakfast.
YHS Moves to NMB! This shabbat, the
Judaic faculty of the school will be taking the energy of YHS
on the road to North Miami Beach. The NMB families and rebbeim
will be enjoying a Shabbat meal together, and the faculty will
be housed and hosted for a meal at the families' homes.
Between this week and last, our Tennis Team played
three matches. The late breaking news is that our girls and
boys teams played fantastically on Thursday afternoon. Avi
Amsalem, Jeremy Gelbart, Jordan Lieber and Shalom Weberman won
their matches, as did Rachel Begas, Rachel Dolgow and Melissa
Marder. Jeremy and Avi won their doubles match as well.
